(indystar) A preliminary police investigation has tied two dead bodies found at an Eastside apartment complex this morning to a fight between two men over a woman.

Indianapolis metropolitan police think Oscar Martinez, 26, attacked Fabian Vasquez, 24, amidst an argument over a woman at the Bradford Square Apartments, in the 6200 block of Eastridge Drive, where all three live. Another man joined Martinez in the assault.

Eventually, police say, Vasquez got a hold of a knife and stabbed both men, killing Martinez. Police think the woman, whom they have not yet identified, became distraught over the fight and hanged herself. Both she and Martinez died at the scene.

Vasquez suffered blunt trauma injuries in the fight. The other man, who also has not been identified, suffered a neck wound and is in serious condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital, but is expected to recover, according to a news release from Sgt. Paul Thompson, an IMPD spokesman.

Police were first alerted to the incident by a 911 call from a frantic man who spoke little English. The first officers to arrive at 6:51 a.m. found a man dead in front of the building, his bloody body laying on the outside porch step.

No arrests have been made yet and police think that Martinez was killed in self-defense. However, the case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for further review
