One For The Books! Rihanna Breaks Michael Jackson’s Record

The 59th GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Source: Frazer Harrison / Getty

Rihanna has reached another monumental achievement. The multiplatinum selling singer has beat Michael Jackson in the race for the most top 10 Billboard Hot 100 U.S. singles.

Her emotional ballad “Love on the Brain” is the song that broke the record, being the 29-year old’s 30th single to be in the top 10. The legendary Michael Jackson had 29 singles in the top 10.

However, Rihanna does not hold the all-time record. This is still held by The Beatles and Madonna who have had 38 songs in the top 10. One way she’s beaten The Beatles is with the total of weeks all her #1 singles combined have stayed at the top of the charts. With 60 weeks, she now has to beat Mariah Carey’s 79 weeks total.

Considering how almost every Rihanna album produces a #1 single, the “Work” singer still has a chance at smashing records. Until then, the star is celebrating her achievements via Twitter:

Congrats to Rih!

Solange (And Everyone Else) Thinks Beyoncè Should Have Won Album Of The Year

Beyonce’s little sis, Solange, herself a Grammy winner Sunday night for her song “Cranes In The Sky” from A Seat At the Table, has weighed in on her sister’s Grammy snub. She says that it’s not just about Beyoncè, but about the continuous oversight of Black Grammy artists in the four major categories, including Album Of The Year. Even Adele, who did win for her album 25, didn’t think she should have won.

People.com reports:

There have only been two black winners in the last 20 years for album of the year,” [Solange] tweeted Monday afternoon. “There have been over 200 black artist who have performed.”

grammystweet

Shortly after, she offered her social media followers a call to action, tweeting: “Create your own committees, build your own institutions, give your friends awards, award yourself, and be the gold you wanna hold my g’s.”

The posts aren’t the first time Solange — who won the best R&B performance Grammy for “Cranes in the Sky” — has appeared to weigh in on her sister’s snub. After the show, she tweeted “wuddup frank,” sharing a link to Grammy boycotter Frank Ocean‘s open letter to the show’s producers saying the annual awards suffer “cultural bias and general nerve damage.”

Solange later deleted all three of these posts on Monday evening, but she isn’t the only star to speak out against Adele’s win.
Other media outlets weighed in as well. Essence published this take, which said that Adele’s gracious nod to Beyoncè in her own acceptance speech reeked of white privilege. USA Today also co-signed a win for B, saying that Grammy voters simply made their choice based on Adele’s stronger sales for 25. And Time Magazine said her loss was indicative overall of the Grammy’s “problem” with validating Black artists instead of just exploiting them for ratings.
Another Time columnist said that the divas battle was a microcosm of racial problems overall, including the election of President Donald Trump
The night’s other heralded Black nominee, Rihanna, went home empty-handed despite eight nods (Drake and Kanye West also had eight; Kanye also went home empty-handed, while Drake won two awards) and a strong critically acclaimed and successful year with her album Anti.

Guess Which Big Stars Will Be A No-Show At The 2017 Grammy Awards

The 2017 Grammy Awards are quickly approaching and music fans everywhere can’t wait to see if their favorite artists will take home a golden trophy.

However, TMZ is reporting that some of the biggest artists have opted out of attending the 2017 Grammys. Reportedly Frank Ocean, Drake, Justin Bieber and Kanye West, plan to skip the biggest night in music for various reasons.

Before dropping his highly anticipated album Blond last year, Frank opened up about why he didn’t submit it for Grammy consideration, saying he thinks the Grammys are a dinosaur which fails to represent young, black artists.

Drake, who is one of the biggest artist of the moment, won’t be in attendance this year either. He’ll reportedly be on tour in Europe. Justin Bieber’s reason for boycotting the historic show is similar to Frank’s. He just doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.

As for Kanye, no real reason was given for the 21-time Grammy winner’s absence, but TMZ pointed out that he always loses when put up against a bigger, white artist (I.E. Beck and Taylor Swift).

Sources say that none of these artists decisions are set in stone—- they could have a change of heart at any moment. Will you be watching on February 12th?

[Exclusive] Shawn Stockman aka S8 sings the “Real Star Spangle Banner” [3rd verse] (New Music)

[theplatform account=”BCY3OC” media=”LATltddnYmNF” player=”xZ3p81MyUb_L”]
It has been almost 2 months since Colin Kaepernick first protested the National Anthem and more celebrates are taking a stance as well.

S8 formally known as Shawn Stockman, of the legendary group Boyz II Men, understands the message behind the protest and wants to help enlighten others.

S8 starts off singing the National Anthem as we all have sung in grade school and during special events.  But shortly after the verse we all know, S8 jumps down to the 3rd verse which gets very dark and unfamiliar.

After hearing the song, I must admit, as a black man it was a little uncomfortable to know that I have been forced to sing a song that wasn’t written for me during a time that my ancestors were still enslaved. It doesn’t matter if your black, white, red, yellow, or purple.  We all need to stand up and fight for what is right.

Lyrics :

The Star-Spangled Banner

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,

What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight

O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,

O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep

Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,

In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,

’Tis the star-spangled banner – O long may it wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,

That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion

A home and a Country should leave us no more?

Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand

Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!

Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land

Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Watch Meek Mill Describe (In Detail!) Waking Up Next To Nicki Minaj

In a new Noisey Raps episode, Meek Mill chats with Vice about his drug-ridden childhood, landing in and out of jail, securing notoriety in the rap game, and his hell of a hustling girlfriend Nicki Minaj.

Current beefs aside, the Philly native talks about his growth over the years and his commitment to lending a helping hand to kids who’ve grown up the way he did. He reminds fans he came from nothing, and it wasn’t long before prison took most of what he’d attained through the street as a young man. “I know what the other side looks like,” he says into the camera. “I know what it feel like to have everything took from you in one day – I went to court and just, everything took. Now you in a cell, eating garbage. Locked up 23 hours a day, can’t move. I’ve been through that.”

Throughout the quick clip, we see Meek and his boys on bikes, riding in private jets, in the studio, and counting stacks of cash. We even get a couple glimpses of his superstar girlfriend, who he says was the dream from the beginning. For Meek, it was important that he have a relationship with a woman who could understand him. Who better than Nicki?

“Where I come, I can’t just be from the hood and just have a like a total opposite girlfriend, she don’t know nothing about where I come from… she don’t understand me. So, it’s somebody that’ll understand me, somebody that hustle, you know what I’m saying? Somebody that’s aggressive. You know, these the things I like,” he explains.

“I always seen it like this. I always seen me having one of the top hustling, prettiest girls in the game. That’s how my account was set up,” says Meek. “I could wake up in my bed and just look at Nicki, like man this shit, it gotta be a dream ’cause we used to dream all this shit and it’s just going on right now.”

Besides Nicki, Meek has a whole team of people behind him, including Jay Z, who he says gave him some advice during his most recent stint behind bars. Meek also has the Dreamchasers and said of the crew, “One thing we all got in common – all of us that work together – we all come, like, from nothing,”  a quote that quickly puts things into perspective. Watch above.
