Looks like Diddy-Dirty Money is dunzo…at least for now. Group member Kalenna Harper just kicked off her solocareer, and says Dirty Money is no longer on her plate.

Singer/songwriter Kalenna debuted on the scene as 1/3 of Diddy-Dirty Money, who won for Best Group at the 2011BET Awards, alongside Diddy and Dawn Ri’chard. But now, the 29-year-old says the group is no longer her concern–her solo career is:

“As of now, Kalenna is solely focusing on her solo career and that is all that concerns her at the moment,” her rep tells TheYBF.com. “Dirty Money is a hind thought and doesn’t seem to be in any future plans.”

Kalenna is set to release “Got To Work,” her debut solo single and viral visual on 11/11/11. She describes her music as“experimental harmonies over worldly tracks paired with lyrics from a diary tucked deeply into
a heart that has beat to and for so many.”

Looks like Diddy-Dirty Money is on an indefinite hiatus…or will be getting a new member.

R&B songstress and Dirty Money member Kalenna Harper is happy and blessed to be in a better place now in her career.

Before she became a part of Diddy’s recent group project, she had a few bumps in the road and it wasn’t because of her talent. Kalenna recently opened up to Scene and Heard TV in an interview detailing how her ‘dark skin tone’ prevented her from reaching her dreams.

Kalenna stated record execs didn’t think her skin color was marketable, opting them to close the door on her singing abilities.

“I kind of started off as a solo artist, and I was doing that for a very long time. And you know, just coming up against obstacles; they was like, you know, ‘you too black,’ or ‘you’re not marketable.’ Whatever they came up with in their minds to say that I wasn’t artist material, you know,” Kalenna says in the interview. Later adding, “The way they made it seem was, you black as night girl; you crispy, burnt black, and that’s just not marketable right now.”

Kalenna kept her positive attitude to make her own dreams come true, following in the footsteps of musicians that came before her.

“I just said I’m going to be a businesswoman, and I’m going to be like the Missy Elliotts, and the R. Kellys, and the Keith Sweats,” she stated. “I’m going to write for other artists, and they’re not going to have no other choice but to hear me, and to buy my music, and to respect me as an artist.”

In 2011 skin color is sadly still an issue that plagues our society. Dirty Money‘s Kalenna Harper recently spoke out about her struggles in the music industry as a dark-skinned woman.

Harper spoke at length about how industry executives would tell her how she was “too black” and “not marketable” with Scene And Heard TV.

“I kind of started off as a solo artist, and I was doing that for a very long time. And you know, just coming up against obstacles; they was like, you know, ‘you too black,’ or ‘you’re not marketable.’ Whatever they came up with in their minds to say that I wasn’t artist material, you know. I just said I’m going to be a businesswoman, and I’m going to be like the Missy Elliotts, and the R. Kellys, and the Keith Sweats. I’m going to write for other artists, and they’re not going to have no other choice but to hear me, and to buy my music, and to respect me as an artist.

And so the way they made it seem was, ‘You black as night girl; you crispy, burnt black, and that’s just not marketable right now.’ And it wasn’t at the time to be totally honest with you. It was around that time that Mya was out and the Christina Milian’s and they were definitely setting the bar for what the industry standard was. It was just like, ‘You know, you’re not marketable, you’re a little too brown.’ It was a little challenging but here I am. I’m excited to be in this position and give hope to all the little brown skin girls that’s out there, and they’re beautiful, too.”

Diddy-Dirty Money‘s Last Train To Paris may have been slow to depart the station, but with the last couple of singles from the album, we’re on board.

The video for their latest single, “I Hate That You Love Me,” just dropped this week and has us Diddy bopping at our desks here in the TUD offices.

As much as we hated on Diddy & Dirty Money last year, we kinda hate that we love this song and video.
