Alicia Keys To Duet With Stevie Wonder At Billboard Awards

The list of performers at the 2012 Billboard Awards is already enough to have fans anticipating the show. However, the show’s organizers are still adding performances at the last minute.

Grammy Award winer Alicia Keys is slated to perform a duet with the legendary Stevie Wonder at the awards ceremony. Keys will also present Stevie with the Icon Award at the Billboard Awards which will commence Sunday May 20th on ABC.

The Keys/Wonder duet is going to have tough competition for performance of the night because Usher, Justin Bieber, Nelly Furtado, and Chris Brown are all scheduled to tear the stage down.

On Wednesday May 2, 2012 Swizz Beatz hosted the fourth annual charity auction for The Bronx School of The Arts at Marquee in New York City.

His wife Alicia Keys, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and his wife Lala were among the notables in attendance. Swizz’ son KJ got the donations started by offering up $5,000 to help his peers expand their curriculum.

The record producer and entrepreneur has made no secret of his passion for painting and has passed that that love down to his children.

“Art has been such an inspiration in my kids life,” he told the audience. “Egypt walks around the house and is able to identify four major artists at 18 months. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for art.”

Rick Ross, who just partnered with Swizz for a big and tall line, donated $25,000 of his Maybach bucks to the worthy cause.

Swizz Beatz stopped by Power 105.1′s “The Breakfast Club” morning show to talk about his numerous career ventures, how he knew there was more to life and business than just music, and yes, his wife, Alicia Keys.

Swizz also touched on his disdain of 360 deals and how such a move is only advisable to “new artists” with “nothing to lose,” but with a timetable.

On the Megaupload controversy, “It was a bunch of miscommunication.” He also added that “He wasn’t doing nothing wrong, but the miscommunication part makes it look like everyone is doing something wrong when that isn’t the case.” He added that, “He is the last person who wants to give music away for free. Are you crazy?”

As for New York’s problem to remerge as the dominate region of hip-hop, “We don’t have unity. We’re always trying to be king and have that one spot when there are a lot of spots to be had.”

When it comes to DMX, Eve and their musical comebacks, “All it takes is one hit,” Swizz asserts. He also noted that when it comes to regaining musical relevance, “Eve is hungry.”

Asked about President Obama shouting out Young Jeezy at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, he said, “He caught me off guard.” Asked to elaborate, Swizz explained, ”I was shocked. I thought he was gonna do the Jay or the Kanye right.” He then advised Jeezy to capitalize off it.

Now about his wife, “Her album is crazy. I think she coming in September. I think she’s coming with a single pretty soon.”

Music from Alicia Keys has been rather scarce since she had her son in October of 2010.

MTV invited Keys to perform at their network upfront event. The MTV Upfronts is an event where the network invites members of the media industry to preview their upcoming television shows.

Mrs. Swizz Beatz took a seat behind her baby grand piano and debuted a new song called “Not Even The King.” Although we know Keys is working on a new album, it’s not clear as to whether the ballad will be on her next project.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz were spotted with their son, Egypt, heading to the airport in Hawaii. The family were wrapping up a week long vacation. Looks like the time away served them well. The married looked relaxed as little Egypt enjoyed the atmosphere. Check the pictures out here.

Who knew Swizz Beatz was actually getting “Arab Money?” As the CEO of MegaUpload, Swizz has got a lot of legal issues to face with the Federal Government, seeing as how they’ve shut down the music-sharing site. It’s quite interesting that an industry veteran could head up a site that provides free music of his peers. Not only that, but Swizz managed to get Chris Brown, Kanye, Snoop and other A-list recording artists to support the site with the Mega Upload Song.

Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I had no clue Swizz Beatz was a man of many jobs and talents. Swizz is a modern-day Renaissance man, opening himself up to more than just music and allowing his passions to run deep in everything from fashion to art.

As I began to research the multi-hyphenate mogul, I became increasingly impressed with his accomplishments. He’s the definition of ambitious and even though SOPA’s trying to bring down one of his latest ventures, Swizz will be just fine without this CEO title. So, take that SOPA. Check out the 9 different impressive jobs that Swizz is able to juggle and still wear the hats of husband and father.

1. DJ: This is how Mr. Dean got his start in music. He scored some deejaying equipment from his stepfather and uncles.

2. Producer: Swizz’s uncles Chivon, Dee and Waah Dean were CEO’s of the Ruff Ryder label and noticed his musical talents and allowed him to produce for their breakout star DMX. At 16, Swizz created the “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem.”

3. Recording Artist: Swizz was signed as a recording artist to Universal/Motown records. He is now signed to Everest Entertainment/Atlantic/Warner. He’s released a compilation album – Swizz Beatz Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories - in 2002 and One Man Band Man in 2007. Haute Living is coming this year.

4. CEO: By 23, Swizz started his own label–Full Surface–with music mogul Clive Davis. He’s also the CEO of Megaupload.

5. Fashion Designer: As if the music was not enough to feed his creativity, Swizz accepted a partnership and brand ambassador to KidRobot, a retailer for limited edition toys, art and clothing.

6. Shoe Designer: The fashion bug bit Swizz and hasn’t let up. He lent his fashion forward expertise to Reebok to create a new line of sneakers.

7. Professor: Swizz taught a music industry course for a year at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music. He even held one-on-one sessions and had office hours.

8. Vice President: Swizz is the VP of Creative Design and Global Marketing for luxury carmaker Lotus. He collaborated with Lotus CEO Dany Bahar to create the look for the sparkling chrome-painted Lotus Evora GTE.

9. Painter: As an art enthusiast, Swizz collects works of legendary artists like Basquiat, Ernie Barnes and Keith Haring. He’s also an artist in his own right and paints in whatever free time he can find. He sells his masterpieces and donates the proceeds to the Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation.

Rap group Odd Future has one female member and that’s Syd The Kyd. She recently interviewed with LA Weekly, where she opened up about being a lesbian, coming out, homosexuality in music and, of course, who she thinks is secretly gay.

On the lack of out-of-the-closet gay urban artists:
There’s Alicia Keys, who’s married to Swizz Beatz – we know that sh*t ain’t real. You got Queen Latifah kissing Common in movies. Missy Elliott saying she don’t wanna hang with b*tches. You know she loves her some b*tches.

On coming out via music video (see it below):
I decided to do it because I wish I had someone like that [an openly gay female artist] while I was coming up. People write on my Tumblr just thanking me for making the video, saying that I really inspire them, and they want to be like me. But I wasn’t always this way, this comfortable with myself, and I remember what that was like. So I figure, f**k it. Everyday people aren’t given this opportunity and I realize that. And I didn’t at first. I thought I was just lucky to be along for the ride.

On getting asked that question “Are you gay?”
I put myself out there because I’m sick of people asking. I’ve been asked it so many times. It’s annoying, it’s like, you can’t answer that yourself? And awkward because it’s not like they’re going up to the other guys in the group and asking if they’re straight. Now I don’t have to answer that question outright. Because I don’t want to. It’s not that I’m not proud of who I am. Do I look straight to you? Sh*t, you got your answer — go watch ‘Cocaine.’
