    Dear Russ,
This is Hadassah McDonald, but everyone calls me Dee. I want to start of by saying I love your radio show. I listen to you a lot. I’m writing you because I need some advice about this situation and maybe your viewers may have some advice for me too.
I’m 22 years old and I’m happily married. I met my husband when I was 14 years old and we’ve been together ever since. In the middle of our relationship we had some problems; he cheated on me and had two sons by another woman. I also have a 3 year old son by him. We’ll to make a long story short; I forgave him and I took the kids in and they were like my own. 2 years ago my husband made a bad choice and ended up getting locked up. In the meantime I was still taking care of the kids and I started taking them to their moms to visit. We’ll one day when she had them, she left them alone in the house and her neighbor called CPS. CPS came and took the kids. I was devastated. I called DCS immediately and asked that the children be place with me, but they told me to wait and see if the mom could get the kids back on her own. We’ll that was a year ago. The kids are still in the system and DCS have just been giving me the run-around. The courts are going to terminate the mom’s rights and my husbands because he’s incarcerated. I know he’s done wrong, but he really is a good husband and father. DCS is looking at adoption and their trying to leave the kids with the foster mom. I don’t think she takes as good care of them as I did. Once DCS took the kids my hands were tied. The caseworker assigned to the case was going to give me relative placement 6 months ago and changed her mind. I’ve done everything these people have asked me to do. My FBI background check and my home inspection were good. DCS has come up with every excuse possible not to give me the kids and none of them make any sense. My husband and the kid’s mom have signed their rights over to me and DCS still won’t try and place the kids with me. At first they said it was my age, then they said I couldn’t adopt because I was the step-mom. There’s’ nothing wrong with me, my skills as a mother, or my home. The lawyers of the parents said I’m going to have to do a contested adoption to have a chance to get the kids. That’s very expensive and I have to get a lawyer. I’ve tried all the places that normally help families with low income get a lawyer. All the lawyers that will take the case are expensive and like 2,000 down. I can make payments, but the dilemma is trying to come up with 2000 down. I have to have a lawyer before we go back to court May 17th. I’ve been up crying. I’ve went to bed crying. It consumes my every thought. I love these kids with all my heart and I can’t stand the thought of loosing them. I want to know do you or your viewers have any ideas on how I could raise this money down that I need so I won’t loose the kids. My e-mail is hbowman1@indy.rr.com
    Sincerely,
    Desperate and Heartbroken.
