LVRN Announces First Ever Holiday Album “Home For The Holidays”

LVRN Home For The Holidays Album Artwork

Source: LVRN / Interscope Records

Label and talent management company, LoveRennaissance (LVRN) announced new Home For The Holidays album set to release Nov. 16. LVRN and Interscope Records will be releasing its first-ever holiday album featuring notable acts, Summer Walker, 6LACK, Shelley, formerly known as DRAM, Westside Boogie and more.

The project will include nine tracks featuring several classic Christmas renditions like “This Christmas” and “Chestnuts Roasting.” The collection will also feature three skits voiced by DJ and artist Kitty Ca$h. There will be more special appearances on the project from LVRN’s younger signees including Houston rapper OMB Bloodbath, artists Eli Derby and Young Rog.

LVRN has continued to remain innovative in their approach to marketing and fostering talent. A few rollouts come to mind when thinking of the label’s fresh perspective to marketing campaigns for projects. Summer Walker’s “Over It” single release was promoted by phone booths in multiple cities across the nation where fans could interact directly with the artist.

Or the time 6lack released a special hot sauce called 600 Degrees to promote his “6pc Hot EP” earlier this year.

Fans can imagine this project will also have a well-crafted rollout, in true LVRN fashion, introducing their newer acts along with spotlighting some of our favorites.

This year has not been the best considering the circumstances. However, despite these unusual times for music and the world at large, LVRN has continued to rack in the blessings. This year the label has received many accolades. With recent features in Fast Company, Rolling Stone and Complex, along with achieving Billboard Hot 100 chart success led by Walker and 6LACK with their respective EPs and song releases, the Atlanta collective has proven that they are on a mission to be a leading force in music.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CHf6EtRpzxy/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

A lot of exciting projects to come for the young collective. Most recently, LVRN’s executives were featured as Billboard’s 2020 R&B/Hip Hop Power Players alongside some huge heavy hitters in the business.

Surely the holiday album will be a special treat for fans and add to the existing success of LVRN’s growing label and management team. The entire project is executively produced by Lisa McCall, with production helmed by Slim Wav and Rogét Chahayed. Be sure to pre-save the album here.

Exclusive: Reginald Hudlin Speaks On Positive Black Male Representation And His New Disney Film ‘Safety’

Safety key art

Disney just unveiled the trailer for their newest film, SAFETY, a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University safety, Ray McElrathbey, which will premiere on Disney+ December 11. Global Grind’s Sr. Content Director Janeé Bolden interviewed Oscar® nominated director Reginald Hudlin (HOUSE PARTY, DJANGO UNCHAINED, MARSHALL) about the movie. Watch the trailer below then continue reading for the exclusive Q&A.

Disney’s “Safety” stars Jay Reeves (ALL AMERICAN) and is a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University safety Ray McElrathbey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr.

“It was great because Ray was there,” Hudlin told Global Grind about recreating McElrathbey’s story for the screen. “He’s still a young man, he was on set, he was working with the actors; they would workout together, they would party together and he was just a fantastic resource for all of us. It’s the kind of story where if it weren’t a true story you’d all go, ‘That’s ridiculous, that’s unbelievable,’ so having him there to make sure that we were being true to the true elements of his story made the whole process better.”

Reginald Hudlin on the set of Safety

The project stars Jay Reeves as McElrathbey and Hudlin said the actor’s athleticism was just as pivotal as his acting chops in securing the role.

“We just wanted the best people” Hudlin said of the casting process. “We had a two part audition where they would come and read the scenes and then we would come back and have them audition on a football field, so we were like, okay let’s see if you can do this. Everyone you see in the movie, they can run, they can catch, they can throw. We wanted real athletes and not Hollywood fakeness. I think that’s one of the reasons why everything reads very real because we wanted real people who could do real things.”

One of the biggest reasons we’re excited about ‘SAFETY’ is because the film offers such a positive representation of young black men.

“It’s very important to me,” Hudlin said of the powerful way the film portrays the McElrathbey brothers and their story. “That’s been sort of my agenda throughout my career, whether it’s been ‘House Party’ or ‘Boomerang’ or ‘Marshall’ or ‘The Black Godfather,’ or this movie or ‘Django Unchained.’ I want to show the full humanity of black life and particularly black men who tend to be either stereotyped or dismissed and I thought this movie was a really beautiful movie because it was a true story about brotherhood.”

“So many young people are caught in situations where they are on their own and they have to make hard choices and do the impossible. Ray found a way out of no way and he figured out how to save himself and save his brother and he inspired his team, he inspired his whole community and I think that’s a message that our whole society needs right now.”

We also had to ask Hudlin about his recent role producing the Emmy’s during COVID. Despite the challenges presented, Hudlin and his team proved they were up to the task.

“It’s tough because you have to be safety first,” Hudlin told Global Grind about production using COVID protocols. “Fortunately over the past couple months, we’ve developed a set of protocols that you can work in a somewhat limited way and still be safe. I’ve been able to do some specials like the Emmys and do good work and at the same time make sure that everyoen is safe. It requires some creativity and some flexibility but we got that. I’m very encouraged by President Elect Biden putting together a team of actual scientists, and hopefully we can create a new national program so we can beat this pandemic back the way other countries have around the world.”

Chadwick Boseman is among the many accomplished actors who have appeared in Hudlin’s projects, so we had to ask the director, who was also a friend to Boseman, about the legacy he left behind.

“He was an incredible human being and a great actor, but beyond that just a person you wanted to be around,” Hudlin described Boseman to Global Grind. “A person of incredible intelligence, a person with integrity, a person who cared about his community, who cared about art, he attracted the best collaborators around him because of who he was. It was an incredible loss to lose him so young.”

Before ending our interview, we made sure to let Hudlin know how his projects have impacted us, particularly “The Boondocks,” which really profoundly addressed the racial issues in the U.S. that continue to impact us today.

“It’s very important to have a place to do sophisticated black comedy, for parody and sarcasm,” Hudlin told Global Grind. “That’s a very important and healthy way of critiquing where we are as a culture. I think those are good tools for people who are trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Thank goodness we had the election and we had a landslide and we are going to have new management. I have tremendous confidence in the incoming administration.”

We love Reginald Hudlin’s work and can’t wait to see ‘SAFETY!’ Are you excited for December 11th? Disney+ stays winning riiiight?!

The Many Expressions Of Whoopi Goldberg: Which Mood Are You?

Today, Nov. 13, actress, comedian, and host of ABC’s The View, Whoopi Goldberg celebrates 65 years of life. The world has witnessed Whoopi Goldberg in films and on stages entertaining the masses with her many talents. She is expressive and often her face is used in meme after meme because of it. Most recently, she openly shares her opinions on a range of topics, whether you or her fellow cohosts agree or not, on The View. Even in classic films like, Sister Act and The Color Purple, you can quite literally feel each emotion. The Award-winning actress is simply outstanding at invoking that emotion through each character. In 1985, Whoopi Goldberg was the second black woman to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, so The Academy agrees as well.

To celebrate the many expressions of Whoopi, this is a wide range of her moods to choose from. Which mood are you today?

1. Oh… Is That Your Friend?

This is the face you make when you see someone singing “Throat Baby” a little too passionately. Or when someone says they still listen to R Kelly. It’s when you’re trying not to be nosey but you hear something you weren’t supposed to. The expression you make when you’re slightly judging someone’s taste in friends. Oh, that’s you? Yikes.

2. Whoops, What I Do? *ZaZa Voice*

This is a classic “who me?” moment. In the words of 5 year old rap sensation ZaZa, “what I do?” You must have me confused with someone else, because I am not that girl.

3. When You Aren’t Trying To Be Seen But They Still See You

This is usually the fake smile White folks use to acknowledge you, but here Whoopi is serving pressed lip wide grin for the public. Imagine attempting to be low in this wide brimmed pink hat with the matching fit. When in doubt, just grin.

4. Just Trying To See What You See

When the family says the new baby is adorable and you’re trying to see where. Cute shoes though. Or when you’re squinting to see why your friend is still so caught up on this guy with no ambitions and no style. Just trying to get some clarity so I can understand.

5. I Smell CAP

Ghost

When he consistently reposts toxic Future memes, but he treats you like a princess at home. Or when he retweeted that “take her on a $200 date” post but somehow you both still ended up splitting the bill. This face is also after your friend finishes telling you she’s done with the guy for the 50th time. Yeah okay, big capper.

6. You Mean To Tell Me…

Nobody's Fool (2018

This is a classic, “back in my day” moment. “Back in my day, men came to the front door to court you not just text you ‘I’m outside’ and that’s the difference.” Or when the math not mathing at all, but you trying to make it work. So, 2+2 equals 6 now?

7. Me Acting Like I Can’t Operate Zoom

The face you make when you’re asked to turn your camera on to speak for the Zoom meeting. Or when your mom asks how to “do that little Tik Tok video you do.”

8.  You Still Going Out In A PANORAMA

My face when people pretend Covid-19 magically disappeared and we’re not in the middle of a global pandemic. Me wondering how to get through to you! When you’re frustrated trying to explain your point and it continues to go over their heads. Yeah, that face.

Whoopi Goldberg is a mood. She has a way of confidently expressing her personal opinions despite critique and we truly love to see it. With so much wisdom and life experience, Whoopi is very sure of herself and her talents. We are wishing you more life, love and fearless emotion, Queen Whoopi! Happy Birthday!

Future & Lil Uzi Vert — Pluto x Baby Pluto

Future and Lil Uzi Vert head to space with their highly anticipated joint project Pluto x Baby Pluto. The 16-song LP was executive produced by DJ Esco and it follows the dynamic duo’s previously-dropped joints like “Patek” and “Over Your Head.”

The album title works its way into a couple of tracks, including “Real Baby Pluto” and “She Never Been to Pluto.” “Yes, I’m the real Baby Pluto,” Uzi raps on the former. “She was kicking shit with me like judo,” he adds on the latter. “Knock it out the park, home run, Albert Pujols / She ain’t ever-ever been to Pluto.”

To go along with the new effort, the guys also dropped off the music video for “That’s It.” Directed by Hype Williams, the vibrant visual features a futsal theme, no doubt a nod to Uzi’s “Futsal Shuffle 2020.”

Pluto and Baby Pluto have connected on a series of tracks in the past. Aside from the aforementioned “Patek” and “Over Your Head,” the duo also teamed up on joints like “All Bad,” “Too Much Sauce,” “Seven Million,” “New Level (Remix),” and “Wassup.”

Blast off with Pluto x Baby Pluto below.

Lil Nas X — HOLIDAY

Lil Nas X took the music world by storm with last year’s “Old Town Road.” Now, the cowboy ditches his horse for some reindeer on the Christmas-ready anthem, “Holiday.”

Much of the song, which was produced by Tay Keith and Take a Daytrip, deals with Lil Nas X’s rise to success. “I’ve got the biggest damn song, fuck the charts,” he raps, clearly referencing the chart-topping smash that earned several high profile remixes last year.

Later on the song, the rising rapper shares more details about his come-up. “I snuck into the game, came in on a horse / I pulled a gimmick, I admit it, got no remorse,” he explains. “Nobody tried to let me in, nobody opened the doors / I kicked the motherfuckers down and they didn’t have a choice.”

On top of the new single, Lil Nas X dropped a Christmas-themed music video for the track. Directed by Gibson Hazard and Lil Nas X himself, the highly-anticipated visual includes futuristic North Pole vibes, robots, toys, and plenty of choreo.

Listen to the new single and watch the visual below.

2 Chainz — So Help Me God

One year after dropping Rap or Go To the League, 2 Chainz re-ups and drops his newest project, So Help Me God.

The new LP features the previously released singles “Quarantine Thick” with Mulatto and “Money Maker” with Lil Wayne. Rick Ross, Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Brent Faiyaz, Kevin Gates, Chief Keef, and Lil Uzi Vert also appear on this LP.

So Help Me God also benefits from production by Mike WiLL Made-It, David Banner, Cool & Dre, TM88, Mike Dean, Boi-1da, Cu Beats, 30 Rock, and Dem Jointz.

Chainz promoted the new album with a childhood school picture, which works as the LP’s artwork. During a recent interview with Hot 97, the Georgia MC said the photograph was vital to the album’s overall theme, as it reminding him of where he was at that point in his life.

“If I could talk back to [my younger self, I would say…] ‘There’s no such thing as not telling an L, winning forever, losing forever. I believe life is a cycle. You have good spaces, in between spaces, and dark spaces,’” he said. “If I could talk to [myself at that age], I would say, ‘Tough times don’t last forever.’”

Stream So Help Me God below.

Goodie Mob — Survival Kit

It’s been seven years since Goodie Mob released Age Against the Machine. Now, the seasoned and celebrated group is back with a new album, Survival Kit.

Produced entirely by Organized Noize, Survival Kit features some familiar faces. Longtime collaborator Andre 3000 pops up on “No Cigar” and his OutKast brother Big Boi does the same on “Prey 4 Da Sheep.” Chuck D appears on “Are You Ready” and Big Rube comes through for a “Road Break.”

The new offering was inspired by demonstrations that took place around the country and the world this year. “Right now, just seeing all of our people on TV marching and protesting and being shot at, bottles and stuff being chucked at the police, people burning down buildings and looting because we’re tired of all of the injustices,” T-Mo said in a statement, as per Consequence of Sound.

Open the Survival Kit below.

City Girls feat. Lil Wayne, Quavo, Jack Harlow — “Pussy Talk (Remix)”

Just a few months after dropping the “Pussy Talk” music video with Doja Cat, the City Girls revamp the track with new guests. This time around, the duo tapped Lil Wayne, Quavo, and Jack Harlow for the raunchy song’s remix.

JT and Yung Miami provide the foundation from the original, while Quavo kicks things off on the remix. “If that pussy talk, I want to meet and greet,” Quavo raps. Soon, Lil Wayne adds: “I could make that pussy talk proper.” Jack Harlow rounds out the verses with his own innuendos.

“Pussy Talk” was a single off the City Girls’ latest album, City On Lock. The 15-song project also included Lil Durk on the title track and Lil Baby on the LP’s newest single, “Flewed Out.” Stream the “Pussy Talk” remix below.

Happy Birthday, Hip-Hop: A Meditation On The Birth Of The Culture

Hip-Hop is, by far, the most influential culture that spans generations while also sparking and reviving trends new to old, and new again. While there remains some debate surrounding the origin of Hip-Hop music and culture, the term itself has many claims on its name and we’ll examine that in full below.

1520 Sedgwick Ave

The most storied example of the origin of Hip-Hop music and culture points to August 11, 1973, where Jamaican-born DJ Kool Herc hosted a party for his sister inside a rec room inside 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in The Bronx, New York City. This story has been told and retold countless times and several proponents of the culture recognize Herc’s contribution as the prominent moment it remains.

The disc jockey born Clive Campbell borrowed from the “selectors” (DJs) from sound system performance in his native land, and incorporated “toasting” or talking over the music as a means of keeping the vibe and energy uplifted. As some might know, toasting gave way to “deejaying,” which simply can be described as rapping within the genre of Dancehall Reggae.

Herc’s other notable mark is being known as the inventor of the “break beat,” a portion of a song where the music drops out and only the drums remained. Herc took notices that the dancers preferred to do their dance moves during this portion of the song thus the practice was born. From there, terms like “break boys” and “break girls” were later shortened to the familiar b-boy and b-girl titles and each year, another layer of innovation was added in order to bring us the myriad of styles and subgenres that exist now.

 Nov. 12, 1974: Universal Zulu Nation’s Designation

The Universal Zulu Nation, an organization spearheaded by Afrika Bambaataa, who has since vacated his leadership position due to sexual abuse allegations. However, the organization remains in existence and retains its international presence. Bambaataa has stated in interviews that Nov. 12, 1974, marks the period where Hip-Hop truly began to emerge as both a term and culture.

An excerpt at HipHopElements.com explains more from the UZN’s vantage point:

With consideration to the above mentioned dates, nothing makes more sense than to celebrate Hip Hop culture and it’s history during November, which is exactly what the Universal Zulu Nation has been doing for over 27 + years. November is also significant in the fact that it kicks off the “indoor jam season”. The Hip Hop community jams, enjoyed outdoors in the parks, throughout the Summer, had to move indoors for about 7 months to community centers, gymnasiums, schools etc. for the Fall and Winter seasons. The Hip Hop World should recognize this month and pay tribute to those who laid the foundation and paved the way as well as to those who continue to preserve the rich tradition of the culture.

The Term Hip-Hop

The term Hip-Hop has largely been credited to the late Robert Keith “Cowboy” Wiggins of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five fame. Wiggins reportedly teased a friend who just enlisted into the U.S. Army and he began rapping “HipHopHipHop” in a scatting fashion to mimic soldiers marching but it later became the impetus of his musical style. Others lay claim to the term such as the aforementioned Bambaataa and Lovebug Starski among others.

Today, Hip-Hop is intrinsically linked to Black culture and fashion, especially in the United States where it was born nearly 50 years ago. Almost every facet of modern society has borrowed from Hip-Hop much like the producers of the genre have reached back to classic tracks and break beats of the past to rework them for modern ears. The zenith of the art form appears to still far off into the horizon as artists from all over the world continue to find new ways of delivering their creations from lyrics to instrumentation and even in other mediums such as filmmaking.

Hip-Hop Wired compiled a grouping of Hip-Hop Essentials, which will be an evergreen and ever-changing playlist of songs from the genre across the decades and how we should learn to recognize and revere the pioneers of the sound while also look ahead to see what else the culture will inspire in future generations.

MixedByAli On Scrapped Kendrick Lamar Songs: “I Think We Could Put Together Like 6 Albums”

While we all wait for the next Kendrick Lamar album to drop, his engineer, MixedByAli, is teasing us with just how much unreleased heat exists out in the abyss.

Tyler, the Creator's 5th Annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival - Day 2

Source: Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty

In a new interview with Kevin Durant and Eddie Gonzalez on their podcast, The ETCs, Derek “MixedByAli” Ali revealed just how much music Kendrick really leaves on the cutting room floor while making his albums.

Ali has worked with the Compton rapper on every one of his solo albums since 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, but still, he insists he’s worked on a lot more music than what fans have actually gotten to listen to. Not only that, the engineer says there could be around six unreleased albums worth of material that simply didn’t make the cut.

“For Kendrick alone, let me say I think we could put together like six albums,” he said during the latest episode of The ETCs with Kevin Durant. “Everyone’s the same way, it’s all about just understanding that you could always do something better. It’s having that mindset to just strive for the best possible version of you. That’s Kendrick’s whole mind state, always striving to do better. Whether it’s recording a new verse, you know he would record a whole song and get one ad-lib back a month later because he don’t like how he breathed the ad-lib, y’know?”

This isn’t exactly surprising for someone like Kendrick, who takes a long time to create and compile the final products we all know and love. Plus, his Untitled Unmastered project from 2016–which consisted of “throwaways” from To Pimp A Butterfly–just proves how much unreleased heat Lamar has in the chamber.

Megan Thee Stallion Announces Debut Album ‘Good News’ Dropping Next Friday

Megan Thee Stallion x Fenty

Source: @theestallion / Instagram

Heard the latest Hottie Report from Megan Thee Stallion? The Houston rapstress took to Instagram on Thursday (November 12) to reveal that her long-awaited debut album not only had a title, but a release date.

“Hotties , I first want to say thank you for riding with me, growing with me, and staying down with me since my first mixtape Rich Ratchet,” she wrote. “Through this rough ass year we’ve all been having I felt like we could all use a lil bit of good news. So with that being said MY OFFICIAL ALBUM “GOOD NEWS” IS DROPPING NOVEMBER 20TH PRE ORDER WILL BE AVAILABLE TONIGHT”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CHgUgQollzt/

The title no doubt comes from Meg’s whirlwind two-year trek from Houston star with “Big Ole Freak” to earning her first of two No. 1 singles in “Savage” with Beyoncé and “WAP” with Cardi B. The alleged cover for the album features Meg holding up a newspaper clipping with her image in the lead and plenty of headlines surrounding them, from her statements about Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron on ‘SNL,’ her essay for the New York Times and more.

Meg crashed on the scene in 2018 with her Tina Snow mixtape, sharing fan favorites such as “Cognac Queen,” “Freak Nasty” and the aforementioned “Big Ole Freak”. Months later, she inked a deal with 300 Entertainment and followed Tina Snow with Fever in 2019, featuring DaBaby (“Cash Sh*t”) and “Realer.”

Following label drama with her original home 1501 Certified, Meg took it upon herself to release Suga in February, complete with videos for “Captain Hook,” “B.I.T.C.H.” and “Savage.” Last month, the Hot Girl Coach teamed up with Young Thug for “Don’t Stop,” presumably the first single from Good News.

Good News is out on November 20th. A tracklist has yet to be revealed as of press time.

Danai Gurira Will Play Presidential Candidate Shirley Chisholm In Upcoming Film

Democratic US Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm Announcing her Candidacy for US Presidential Nomination with Representatives Parren Mitchell, Charles Rangel

Source: Universal History Archive / Getty

Shirley Chisholm achieved a number of amazing firsts during her lifetime, and now an upcoming film will examine more of the late politician’s exploits. Danai Gurira will play Chisholm in The Fighting Shirley Chisholm, which is not framed as a biopic according to a new report.

Variety writes that Gurira, best known as the sword-wielding Michonne of The Walking Dead, will occupy the titular role and the film will take a deeper look at Chisholm’s historic run as the first Black candidate of a major political party to be nominated to run for president and her time on the campaign trail.

From Variety:

Though Gurira will play Chisholm, the movie is not a biopic, instead focused more centrally on the campaign and how “the Chisholm Trail was populated by young people who sought social and political change during one of the most turbulent times in American history.” At the time, Chisholm had already made history as the first Black congresswoman, and according to a description of the piece, “recognized that she could make real change by challenging the status quo through her efforts to gain enough delegates to speak for the people at the Democratic Convention.”

The outlet adds that Viola Davis was originally set to play Chisholm but the producers have since moved on. Cherien Dabis, who worked on the Hulu comedy series Ramy and the ABC drama Quantico, will direct. Adam Countee penned the script for the film and Stephanie Allain was named as a producer vis Homegrown Pictures.

A release date has not been set.

Seems like just yesterday French Montana was embroiled in a weird social media beef with 50 Cent and though he’s been quiet since then he’s got a new project dropping this month so you know you’ll be hearing a lot from him.

To get the buzz going French links up with Benny The Butcher for his CB5 album cut “Wave Blues” where the two men find themselves moving work at an abandoned warehouse in Miami while shining and glistening ice that won’t melt under that South Beach sun.

Back up north the Drama King, DJ Kay Slay connects two of the games hardest hitters in Conway The Machine and Sheek Louch in their Jhonni Blaze assisted clip to “Where Is The Love” where the crew brings much heat to the studio. Where’s the fire extinguishers?!

To celebrate artist and producer Warren G’s birthday, the world must know how much he influenced Hip Hop today. As one of the pioneers of the G Funk sound, Warren G has been instrumental in the success of some of your favorite West Coast rappers unleashing the innovative sound we know and love. Between Warren G, Nate Dogg, Dr. Dre, DJ Quik and Snoop Dogg, G Funk was birthed and carried all over the world.

G Funk or gangsta-funk is a subgenre of Hip Hop music that emerged from West Coast gansta rap in the early 1990s. All subgenres of music are influenced by the greats that came before. G Funk is inspired by the sounds of 1970s funk artists like Parliament-Funkadelic. Fans flock to the soulfulness, deep bass, and melodic synthesizers that embody the G Funk sound.

Warren G is most known for his hit record “Regulate” from his debut album Regulate… G Funk Era which debuted in 1994. The rapper and producer also contributed to the soundtracks of a number of popular black films like John Singelton’s Poetic Justice and Jeff Polack’s Above the Rim.

Though Warren G keeps it pretty low, he has continued to influence Hip Hop’s sound generations later. He recently released a single “And You Know That” featuring Ty Dolla $ign back in August.

Ty Dolla $ign is the perfect example of how impactful Warren G and the G Funk era are to music as he continues to push the funky sounds, heavy bass and melodies that were birthed during the 90s. Ty Dolla $ign has even been compared to the birthday legend, Warren G, and the late, great Nate Dogg for his notable feature run with major artists these last few years. It was only right the two joined forces for Warren G’s latest single.

Another artist with an apparent influence from Warren G’s sound and the G Funk era is LA native G Perico. There’s a formula to the sound, and G Perico takes note with songs like “Affiliated” and his latest single, “Toolie.” G Perico has taken the lessons from his OGs like entrepreneurs Warren G, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and created his own progressive, lifestyle brand Blue Tshirt.

Fans are calling him the new progressive gangster.

Other artists heavily influenced by Warren G include LA native, producer and artist Polyester the Saint who has crafted his own lane while paying tribute to those who came before him. Polyester’s latest project For the Player in You Two has both the sound and context that most identify with the sounds of Warren G’s G Funk.

There are a number of other artists from coast to coast who have been inspired by Warren G. Listening to early Outkast and Dungeon Family albums, fans can hear how southern music embodied some of the same elements as the ones Warren G used to help create G Funk. Even now, artists like San Francisco’s Larry June and Oakland’s Kamaiyah have adopted some of the same catchy melodies in their most successful records while paying tribute to G Funk.

Warren G celebrates 50 years of life today while still contributing to the careers of up and coming artists like Block 125.

Warren G is an artist, pioneer and entrepreneur. When Warren G isn’t influencing Hip Hop’s sound, he is on the grill cooking the tastiest of BBQ and tending to his business Sniffin Griffins BBQ.

It appears that the rapper had an intimate gathering amongst friends and family to celebrate and he even thanked his step brother, Snoop Dogg, on social media for his birthday gift.
