The NBA Is Building Its Own Barbershop In The Bubble To Keep Players Looking Fresh

It looks like the NBA’s snitch hotline won’t be the only bubble service the players will be getting a lot of use out of.

When you stick a bunch of millionaires in a hotel without the amenities they’re accustomed too, there’s bound to be problems. Players have already complained about the food options, being held accountable when not social distancing or wearing masks. But before they could start itching for shape ups, the NBA is making sure that is all taken care of by building a barbershop within the bubble.

Former player and current Brooklyn Nets player development coach Tiago Splitter posted a picture of the NBA-branded barbershop being built.

And if you’re an avid video gamer, the setup looks pretty similar to the Neighborhood edition in 2K20. It’s only right that the players get fresh cuts since all eyes will be on them come July 31, as fans wonder how the AAU-like system will play out. Other then their own barbershop, other perks include access to three golf courses, fishing, cornhole, ping pong, and several pools to keep them cool during the scorching Miami heat.

One player who’s definitely not complaining about his digs and being stuck in a cramped hotel suite is Milwaukee Bucks big man Giannis Antekounmpo.

“I’m in a situation where I’m extremely blessed, and I cannot complain. Obviously, it doesn’t matter where you are in life, there’s always something to complain, there’s always a problem and an issue,” Antetokounmpo recently told ESPN. “But I try to kind of not focus on that. So as I said, my apartment in Greece, when I was younger, with my four brothers, was way smaller than the suite that I have in the hotel, so I’m just trying to enjoy the moment.”

Soon, all the work the players have been putting in during the off months will be on display as the league tries to salvage what’s left of the season.

Bubba Wallace Is Leading The Fan Vote For NASCAR’s All-Star Race

If Donald Trump and racist fans of NASCAR weren’t already mad… they’re about to be.

Amid all the drama surrounding driver Bubba Wallace, he’s still one of the sports most popular drivers and is currently leading the NASCAR All-Star race in fan voting. NASCAR took to its official Twitter account to announce the news that he was at the top of the leader boards with the top five being rounded out by Clint Bowyer, Matt DiBenedetto, William Byron, and Corey LaJoie. Don’t worry, we have no idea who they are either, but LaJoie did drive a Trump 2020 car at a race just last week.

Wallace is the only Black driver in NASCAR and became a household name when he began to combat NASCAR’s use of the confederate flag a few weeks ago.

“No one should feel uncomfortable when they come to a NASCAR race,” Wallace said. “So it starts with confederate flags. Get them out of here.”

Not long after, the association made the appropriate change.

Even if you’re not a fan of racing, just became a fan of Wallace a few weeks ago, or want to further get under Trump’s skin, you can cast your vote here. Voting for the 2020 All-Star Fan Vote began Monday, June 15, and ends July 14.

Head Coach Ron Rivera Working With Owner of NFL’s Washington Football Franchise To Change Name

Washington Coach Ron Rivera Says Dan Snyder Working On Changing Team Name

This took entirely too long to happen.

Washington Redskins‘ head coach, Ron Rivera, told The Washington Post that the team’s owner Dan Snyder is actively working on changing the franchise’s racist name. Rivera said to Les Carpenter that he hopes the change comes within the next two months and that “If we get it done in time for the season, it would be awesome.”

According to Rivera, discussions were well underway for the name change even before companies like FedEx, Nike, and Pepsi all planted their flags on the side of ditching the racial slur. The head coach claims Snyder and the league officials held discussions about the name change “2 1/2 weeks ago” and that he is ready to make the change he boastfully said he wouldn’t.

As for possible names, the team’s quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, seems to be on board with the name Red Tails as the new name.

Rivera is currently on vacation but did disclose that he and Snyder did discuss a couple of names.

“We came up with a couple of names. Two of them I really like.”

Rivera added the team’s new name has to respect both Native Americans and their culture as well as serve as a tribute to the military at the same time. Interesting.

Rivera, who is currently one of only four minority head coaches in the NFL, detailed how his view on the team’s name changed over time. He pointed out growing up rooting for the franchise as a kid to now seeing why it’s time for the change.

“It was hard to fathom that it was in any way a racist thing, to be honest with you. Now, putting it in perspective, there’s been a change.”

“”My eyes are wide open.””

Now it’s time to get the Cleveland Indians to do the same.

FedEx Asks That Washington NFL Team Be Renamed, Name Under Review

As the world continues to voice the plight of Black people we are reminded that justice needs to be served for all communities. One organization needs to act right.

For many years Native Americans have felt slighted by the National Football League. The name of the Washington R-dskins team uses a very disrespectful and derogatory term thus Native American groups have tried to their best to get them to be change it but have been unsuccessful. Now the franchise is facing a different pressure. As spotted on The New York Times FedEx is now joining the push.

In 1999 the shipping conglomerate signed a $205 million dollar deal to acquire title sponsorship rights  and naming rights to the stadium. On Thursday, July 2 FedEx served the team a notice requesting a prompt change. “We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name,” they said in a formal statement.

Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington is also seeking a change. In an interview with The Team 980 he detailed why it is necessary. “I think it’s past time for the team to deal with what offends so many people,” she explained. “This is a great franchise with a great history that’s beloved in Washington, and it deserves a name that reflects the affection that we’ve built for the team.”

The Washington NFL team released a statement saying the name is undergoing a “thorough review.” Let’s hope they do the right thing and shed the colonizer vibes—it is long overdue.

We Didn’t Ask For This: NFL To Play Black National Anthem Before Games In Week 1

Rally In Support Of NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Outside The League's HQ In New York

The NFL has long been a breeding ground for racism and inequity and it appears by most accounts that the league snuffed out Colin Kaepernick for using his given right of expression to boot. Supposedly turning a corner, NFL officials are graciously (expressed with all the sarcasm) allowing the National Black Anthem to be played before all the games held in the first week of the upcoming season, an act nobody needed or asked for.

As reported first by The Undefeated via a source, the NFL’s hollow act of solidarity with the plight of Black folks will feature the playing or singing of “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing” and officials will examine other ways to call attention to the same injustices Kaepernick called out during his playing days. That same source said that the National Black Anthem will be played before the National Anthem.

This comes on the heels of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell walking back earlier criticism of the peaceful demonstrations by players and kowtowing to the owners along with the incredibly vapid “Keep Politics Out Of Sports” crowd. Goodell, like other brand CEOs and leadership, claims to be committing resources to the concerns of its Black players and to any opponent of racial and social injustice but the proof isn’t present at the moment.

There was an announcement to also donate $250 million over a 10-year span in support of social justice initiatives. Again, a vague and empty pledge without as much of a plan for this lofty engagement.

As it stands, American football is the biggest sport in the nation and stacked with Black players who have had to endure bouts with racist fans and racist acts on and off the field. Time will tell if this gesture from the NFL will lead to some manner of transformation or if it’s just another dog and pony show to ease white guilt.

The NBA Season Might Be A Wash Due To COVID-19 Says Commissioner Adam Silver

One of America’s favorite pastimes might not have a run in 2020. Coronavirus is making the National Basketball League resuming its 2020 season very doubtful.

In the recent weeks several professional ballers have contracted COVID-19. While the confirmations are alarming the timing of these cases is also putting an spotlight of uncertainty on basketball as a whole. So much so that the season might be scrapped. As spotted on TMZ NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is expressing some concern about commencing with the 2020-2021 schedule. On a recent appearance on TIME 100 Talks he revealed that he has some serious concerns about the current climate.

“Certainly if we had a lot of cases, we are going to stop. You cannot run from this virus” he explained. “We and our players together with their union, look at the data on a daily basis. If there were something to change that was outside of the scope of what we are playing for, certainly, we would revisit our plans.” He went on to detail the precautions the league is taking to ensure every player’s safety. “We are testing daily. We haven’t put a precise number on it, but if we were to see a large number of cases and see spread in our community, that would, of course, be a cause to stop as well.”

Aside from the continuous testing he also confirmed that he made it clear that the new normal will also affect their day to day operations. “In some ways, this is maybe a model for how other industries can ultimately open. But, I am only going to say we will be responsible and watch what is happening, but the biggest indicator will be if we begin to see a spread in our community.”

The 2020-2021 NBA preseason is scheduled to commence on July 30.

Bag Season: Ezekiel Elliott Signs 6-Year Deal With Dallas Cowboys

Divisional Round - Green Bay Packers v Dallas Cowboys

The 2019-2020 NFL Football season is here and things are already looking interesting. Dallas Cowboys RB, Ezekiel Elliott, has been holding off from training camp pending his new contract. With a couple years left in his 5-year rookie contract, some experts say that Elliott holding out and demanding more money was a bold move. They also said that for Dallas to invest in a rusher, instead of extending the contracts of Dak Prescott and/or Amari Cooper who are entering the final seasons of their deals, is a huge mistake.

With the pressure to lock in Zeke’s contract, the Cowboys definitely dropped a bag on ya boy. Today Elliott signed a $90 million 6-year extension which puts him at making about $103 million over the next eight years, with $50 million guaranteed. He was ranked 10th in salary for running backs just last year and now, with this deal, he is the highest paid running back in the league by nearly $14.4 million per year.

NFL watchers and Colts fans might be in a bit of shock as it has been reported that the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Andrew Luck has decided to retire.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 29-year-old will make his retirement announcement on Sunday. Sources say he is mentally worn down and ready to walk away from the NFL.

Luck was drafted by the Colts in 2012 and lead the team to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. However, in 2017 he suffered a shoulder injury and this year has been dealing with a leg injury during training camp and preseason.

We will update this story as more details become available.

Kyrie Irving Was Plotting His Move to the Brooklyn Nets Earlier Than We Thought

Milwaukee Bucks v Boston Celtics - Game Four

The latest bit of news surrounding Kyrie Irving shouldn’t really come as much of a shocker to NBA fans.

The New York Post reported that Kyrie Irving reached out to Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie as early as last December.

“He was obviously still super focused on his season and everything. But you could tell from his conversation that it was on his mind and obviously free agency was coming up and that’s kinda what it was. Just asking a friend about his current situation what he thought,” Dinwiddie said on The Athletic’s Back To Back.

It has been widely speculated for the longest that Kyrie was going to ditch Boston, despite his comments at the beginning of the last regular season that he intended to re-sign with Boston.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics have an idea they might have to move on from Kyrie in March. “Not for sure though, not certain. But I was obviously thinking a move in a different direction at that point, thinking of the different options,” said Ainge.

Irving came with so many issues in Boston, Danny Ainge made sure to get his departing shots in on the outgoing star player, “I think it just makes life more enjoyable when everybody is humble, hard-working and will play any role that they have to, to help the team succeed.”

Once the NBA Draft rolled around it was a foregone conclusion that the Celtics would not be getting Kyrie back, that’s when Ainge and company set their eyes on Kemba Walker.

Kemba Walker isn’t Kyrie Irving, but he is certainly no slouch. If you’re going to lose Kyrie, Kemba is certainly a nice consolation prize, he also brings way less drama than Kyrie.

Rich Paul Inks Major Deal With Sports Division at United Talent Agency

Utah Jazz v Los Angeles Lakers

Rich Paul is already one of the most powerful figures in the NBA, serving as the representative for players like Lebron James, Anthony Davis, Ben Simmons, Tristan Thompson, and some of the most well-paid players in the NBA. Now the super-agent has his sights set on Hollywood.

According to New York Times, he has signed a deal with United Talent Agency, the agency will be ushering in a new sports division, the division will be headed by the super agent, Rich Paul.

UTA is one of the premier talent agencies in the US for Hollywood stars. UTA clients include Kevin Hart, Angelina Jolie, and Lesley Stahl.

“We’ve been looking for the right sports opportunity for quite a while,” UTA’s Chief Executive Jeremy Zimmer said. “We have taken a significant stake in Klutch, but Rich retains very substantial controls because we want it to be his business and we love what he’s doing.”

Like his super client, Lebron James, this will allow Rich Paul to explore outside the realm of basketball clients. Having Hollywood clients opens up a brand new clientele for Rich. Rich is building a brand that allows any client in any realm of the industry to explore into other industries.

Paul told Complex magazine, “This puts me in direct competition with the largest agencies in the world,” Paul said. “There is nothing we cannot do for an athlete. If a guy wants to write a book, great. If he wants to be a Fortnite champion, great. If he wants to act, great. He wants to buy a surfboard company? Fantastic. There is nothing we cannot do for the modern athlete.”

Lebron James said he knew from the first time they met in an Akron airport, over a discussion about a Warren Moon jersey he knew Rich Paul would be special.

“I knew from day one Rich was going to build something totally different, he understood players needed a new way to operate on and off the floor. And I know Klutch is just beginning. I’m so proud of what he’s built and to be able to call a real innovator my brother.”
