Tyrese is back on his solo tip with the honest track “Dumb Shit” featuring Snoop Dogg.
Directed by Matt Alonzo, the singer pays homage to A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum” as he confesses his wandering eye has gotten him in trouble with the ladies. In addition to his smooth vocals and Snoop’s appearance, Tyrese’s alter ego Black Ty also drops a few bars on the track.
The talented entertainer says “Dumb Shit” is an honest record for both men and women. He also says the video is reminiscent of Hype Williams’ classic black and white visuals:
“The #DumbShit video is a throwback to the classic Hype Williams era and black and white videos like ‘Flava In Ya Ear’ remix, Q-Tip’s ‘Vibrant Thing,’ or Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’” he said. “[Director] Matt Alonzo and I had a ball making it. It’s spring and as we warm up, I wanted to drop this dumb shit to get some energy going. This song ain’t for saints, it’s for real people who have made mistakes in relationships and did some dumb shit. “
The lead single comes from Tyrese’s upcoming album Black Rose, his first project released through his label, Voltron Records.
