12-year-old boy stabbed while protecting mom during robbery in east Detroit
The Detroit Police Department said when a 12-year-old boy jumped in front of his mom during a robbery Tuesday morning, he wound up stabbed by one of three men.
On Tuesday, FOX 2 spoke with the victim, 12-year-old Deontae Turner as well as his mother, Barbara Turner.
Barbara said they were just getting home and climbing out of the family car when they approached them and demanded money. She said she wouldn’t give it to them and they got angry and one of them pulled a knife. That’s when her son jumped in.
Turner said the three men were wearing masks and were armed and told the three they were being robbed. When the three victims told the men they didn’t have any money, one of the suspects pulled a knife.

Tip jar stolen during Dairy Queen’s free cone day
In St. Clair Shores, several young women decided to help themselves to a jar full of cash.
“I thought, oh my gosh, we’re giving everything away today and they’re stealing what they can’t get,” said Dairy Queen Owner Liz Hope.
Not the appreciative customers Liz Hope was hoping to get when she handed out free ice cream cones in honor of Dairy Queen’s 75th anniversary. She says on Monday a group of five unruly teens walked up to her stand on Harper and collected their free ice cream cones, but instead of thanking her they took off with the tip jar.
“I think they have a lot of guts,” said Hope.
Alexis Demaria was waiting on them at the time and said “I turned around and I screamed to my boss, screamed they stole our tip cup.”
Alexis stayed with the crowd lined up outside, while Liz and her pregnant daughter ran after the greedy girls.
“I said I was going to call the police, they didn’t care, saying all these names at me. When I looked to the left the one girl had fallen with the tip cup, I figured it was karma,” said Hope.
You might think these girls would go home, lay low or maybe feel bad about what they did. Nope. They decided to post it on the social media site Snapchat and admit what they did. There it was, clear as day, “robbed Dairy Queen tip jar,” as they each proudly smile for the camera.
