Twitter buzzed with activity as the film and its stars were trending topics throughout the airing.
One of the biggest surprises was the overwhelming support for rapper Lil Mama who plays Left Eye. Many were skeptical that Lil Mama could handle such a challenging role and others were initially critical of the casting choice.
Lil Mama stunned everyone by her amazing job. Actor and Comedian Kevin Hart gave her props, tweeting, “All jokes aside @lilmama killed that role…congrats!!! I loved the movie.”
Indianapolis’ own Michael Epps also applauded the young actress. “S|O TO @LilMama SHE STRAIGHT BODIED (In My Brooklyn Voice) THAT TLC MOVIE !!! #Eppsie #TLC.“
There were others who didn’t feel the same way about the Vh1 Movie, like Perri “Pebbles” Reid, TLC’s former manager who the film says stole money from the group. “Overall dope story. Hella shady what this character pebbles did,” said radio personality Yaya Martinez.
Rolling Out shares some of the many memes people created, depicting Pebbles’ alleged cutthroat ways.
One has her telling the girls they could order anything from McDonald’s after selling millions of records while another portrays her as a fisherman dangling a dollar in front of the group.
