The San Francisco 49ers must stop training for their upcoming Superbowl appearance and begin damage control because player Chris Culliver has stuck his foot all the way in his mouth.

Yesterday, Culliver made anti-gay statements, saying gays weren’t welcome to play on the 49ers. In an interview with Artie Lang, Culliver said, “We don’t have any gays on the team. They gotta get up outta here if they do. Can’t be with that sweet stuff.”
Today, finds the 49ers backup cornerback sending a weak apology to the gay community for his comments. Culliver issued a new statement, “”The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience.”
So that’s really how he’s going to apologize? Really? The only thing worse than somebody making remarks like that is a lackluster apology that wasn’t sincere. That’s like pouring salt on an already infected wound.
