Gleaners is striving to meet the need and depends on the support of our community to rescue our neighbors from hunger.
Gleaners’ current food distribution is 16 million meals annually.
We are the largest non-governmental provider of food assistance in Indiana.
For every $1 donated, Gleaners can distribute 4 meals.
Gleaners programs include:
Food for Families provides food to over 350 charitable hunger relief agencies—emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters—serving 160,900 different hungry people yearly. Fully half of those served are children (43%) and the elderly (7%).
Our BackSacks program rescues elementary school students from weekend hunger . Last school year, nearly 10,000 children received a BackSack each week throughout Gleaners’ service area!
Gleaners’ nationally recognized School Pantry Program helps underprivileged students thrive and stay in school by providing their families with food through school-based pantries.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program provides 2,600 needy seniors with a monthly box of food.
Gleaners’ on-site food pantry, Community Cupboard Southwest, is one of the top 4 food pantries for food distribution to families in the city.
The Mobile Pantry Program transports thousands of pounds of healthy perishable food directly to hungry families in neighborhoods that are underserved by food pantries.
